As the summer months slowly faded, we at Silveira spent the season planning and preparing for the months ahead. Our goal? To kick off the new planting season with a renewed focus on regenerative practices and community building. After a period of careful preparation, we celebrated the start of this exciting season with our amazing Open Day – a day filled with connection, learning, and plenty of fun for everyone involved.
Reflecting on the Silveira Open Day 🌿
This was the perfect way to bring our community together and share what we've been working on. From workshops on mushroom inoculation to conversations about reforestation, it was a day where people of all ages came together to learn and engage with our projects.
The event wasn't just about knowledge-sharing though. We made sure it was a true celebration, complete with delicious food and drinks, including some fantastic local craft beers that were a hit with everyone! The atmosphere was buzzing, and the conversations about sustainability and regeneration continued well into the evening, when the talented Pedro Sáfara, gave an intimate concert over an illuminated forest.
What’s Next? The New Planting Season and Agroforest 🌳
With the Open Day behind us, we’re diving headfirst into the next big chapter: planting an agroforest on the terraces right next to our Basecamp. This project has been in the works for a while, and we’re thrilled to see it finally coming to life. Our focus will be on creating a biodiverse system that integrates trees, shrubs, and crops in a way that mimics natural ecosystems. The aim is not only to produce food but also to restore soil health, enhance biodiversity, and create a sustainable, living landscape for generations to come.
This agroforestry project is just one more step in our broader regenerative mission, and you'll be able to be a part of it! Stay tuned to our socials and subscribe to our newsletter as we will host community agroforestry days, where you'll be invited to come, contribute and learn about regeneration the right way: by getting your hands in the soil 🫡
Rebuilding the Abandoned Dam: A Step Towards Water Security 💧
In addition to the agroforest, we’re also tackling another major project: rebuilding the disused dam at the edge of the terraces. Water management is critical for any regenerative landscape, and this dam holds the potential to greatly improve our water security, especially during the drier months, ensuring a greater likelihood of success for our agroforest.
Rebuilding it won’t just enhance our water retention capacity, it will also create a beautiful, functional feature that supports the surrounding ecosystem. From improving irrigation to supporting local wildlife, this dam is an essential part of our plan for long-term sustainability.
